Mammoth Hospital Elects New Chief of Staff  (press release)

Every two years, the medical staff team at Mammoth Hospital elects a new Chief of Staff to oversee the team of medical professionals.  Currently, the medical staff has over 30 active members including physicians, dentists, and other health professionals.  Beginning January 1st, a new term began with Tomi Bortolazzo, MD, stepping in as the new Chief of Staff for Mammoth Hospital.  She was elected Vice Chief of Staff two years ago and now replaces Audrey Pauly, MD, who held the position for the previous two years.  Mammoth Hospital would like to thank Dr. Pauly for her leadership during this time.

As Chief of Staff, Dr. Bortolazzo is working with all physicians to demonstrate the mission of the medical staff team providing patients with quality, personalized care throughout all hospital departments.

Dr. Bortolazzo has been a provider in Mammoth Hospital’s Urology Clinic since 2005, is certified by the American Board of Urology, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of California at San Diego in biochemistry and cell biology and earned her medical degree from the Chicago Medical School.  Bortolazzo completed her residency in surgery and urology at Loma Linda University Medical Center.  Prior to moving to Mammoth, she worked in Upland, California, at the San Antonio Urology Medical Group, Inc, for 11 years.

Dr. Bortolazzo was the youngest person and first woman to become San Antonio Community Hospital’s Chief of Staff in 2002-2003.  She was also the first female president on a medical staff comprised of 500 physicians of which 15% were women.  Her fellow colleagues referred to her as a highly respected physician and surgeon in the field of adult and pediatric urology, a specialty dominated by men.  She personally strives to ensure that all patients in need of medical care get the same quality of care she would give her family and friends, and has been instrumental over the last nine years at Mammoth Hospital in helping to improve Mammoth Hospital’s facilities and services.

“My biggest goal is to make sure residents and visitors to the Eastern Sierra continue to get access to increasing quality of medical care, despite the unending changes being implemented by insurance companies and government,” says Bortolazzo.  “I want the physicians to be able perform to their potentials, and put their expertise to work.  I know that everyone on the medical staff supports this goal because we all have spent years in school, training, practicing and studying to be the best we can be.   Whatever changes are placed upon our community, I want everyone to be their best and get the best.  As Chief of Staff, I have a lot of behind-the-scenes responsibilities to insure quality.  I pledge to do my best for the physicians, hospital and patients of the Eastern Sierra and continue to lead a great team.”

Dr. Bortolazzo in her spare time enjoys spending time with her husband, Ron, and their kids, Randy and Russell.  Her interests include skiing, snowmobiling, biking, hiking, and flying.

Other medical staff officers for 2014 include Radiologist, Yuri Parisky, MD; elected Vice Chief of Staff, and Anesthesiologist Wayne Anderson, MD; elected Secretary Treasurer.
