Judge Stout convened the special session and attorneys waited to speak.

On Friday, Inyo Superior Court Judge Dean Stout held a special session of the court to honor Inyo-Mono attorney Kenney Scruggs who had died May 30th at her home in Independence.

Judge Stout, Judge Brian Lamb and retired Judge Pat Canfield spoke of Kenney.  They used words like honest, dedicated, sharply analytical.  Judge Canfield called Kenney the “personification of class.”

Attorney and Mammoth Town Councilman Rick Wood worked on numerous cases with Scruggs.

The tribute unfolded with statements from attorneys Doug Buchanan, Linda Anisman, Rick Wood, Dana Crom and Phil McDowell.  They all related memories of Kenney’s formidable advocacy skills, of her good humor, grace, balanced attitude, and devotion to protecting her juvenile clients.

Judge Stout read letters from those who could not be there, including Mono County Judge Stan Eller.  Judge Stout told the standing room only crowd that the flag at the Mono County Courthouse in Mammoth Lakes flew at half-mast for Kenney Scruggs.

People from all walks of life – lawyers, clients, friends and admirers – listened to the honors for Scruggs from her colleagues.  At the end of the hour, Judge Stout called for civility and love in the courtroom the way Kenney practiced these fine qualities.
