The Friends of the Eastern California Museum are scheduled to host their annual deep pit barbecue fundraiser this Saturday in Independence.

All are invited to attend the event at the Museum in Independence. Besides the deep pit barbecue, event organizers promise other food, drink, music and fun.

The Barbecue starts at 4:00 pm, but there is plenty to see at the Museum if you show up on the early side. Besides the celebrated collection of Paiute/Shoshone baskets, there is also a new exhibit on historic women of the region entitled, Faces Through Time Pioneering Women of Inyo County. This exhibit tells the stories of many women in Eastern Sierra history from native basket weavers to doctors, artists, and even a wealthy brothel owner.

This exhibit runs through September.

The fundraiser barbecue starts at 4:00 pm Saturday at the Eastern California Museum in Independence. The dinner runs $12 for adults and $8 for children and seniors.
