FORECAST: The Owens Valley, Mammoth and Mono County

While we have been having a very mild winter, Alaska has not. According to Ken Clark, respected forecaster for the Western U.S., Alaska has had one of the coldest January’s on record. Some of the coldest low temperatures are: Fort Yukon: minus 66 on Jan. 31, Circle Hot Springs: minus 58 on Jan. 29, and Fort Greely: minus 50 on Jan. 29. So today for us, that EPAC ridge continues to amplify, bringing slightly above normal February temperatures and dry weather through the weekend and into Monday. On next Tuesday things get kinda interesting. A trof approaches the West Coast and encounters that ever persistent ridge. As it does it will split and struggle to reach the Sierra. However, splitting systems are most difficult to predict this far out, so there is some hope for a little moisture. Stay tuned for updates.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

Today: Mostly sunny then mostly clear in the evening. Highs 50 and lows 25. Winds N 6 – 8 mph.

Saturday & Sunday: Sunny days and mostly clear evenings. Highs 51 and lows 27 . Winds W 3 – 6 mph.

FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES:

Today: Becoming mostly sunny with mostly clear skies at night. Highs 42 and lows 19. Winds N 5 – 10 mph.

Saturday & Sunday: Mostly sunny days and partly cloudy nights. Highs 39 and lows 25. Winds S 5 mph.

FOR MONO COUNTY:

Today: Sunny daytime skies and mostly clear at night. Highs 38 – 48 and lows 6- 16. Winds SE 5 – 10 mph.

Saturday & Sunday: Sunny days and partly cloudy skies at night. Highs 39 – 44 and lows 17 – 27. Winds SW 5 – 10 mph.
