The first day of winter brings full on winter, with a series of storms, which will slam into our district later today thru Monday morning. Winter Storm Warning for Inyo and Mono Counties above 5,000 feet from 4 pm today thru 4 am Monday. The best chance for the heaviest snow in Mono County will be Saturday thru Sunday. Here Mammoth Mtn. is looking at the possibility of 4 – 6 feet of new snow. Elsewhere for Inyo County, the best chance of precipitation will be mid Saturday thru Sunday night. Heavy snow is possible for the mtns. of the Owens Valley in this time frame with 2 – 3 feet possible. Snow levels look to be around 5,400 feet, so the Sierra foothills should get snow. If the snow levels drop at all, then theres always the possibility of the Owens Valley seeing some white stuff as well. Monday things taper off leading to cold and dry weather Christmas Day.
