We have two upper lows phasing together, creating a new closed low over Central California this weekend. That closed low will then remain pretty much stationary until at least Tuesday of next week. So starting today, an ever developing chance of showers and thunderstorms begins, particularly over higher terrain. Right now, the best chance for T-Storm action will be latter today through Monday. Temperatures in all areas will drop some 5 – 7 degrees below normal by the weekend. More specifically, today the higher terrain will have a chance of isolated to scattered convection and shower activity with dry lighting a possibility (so a Red Flag Warning is in effect).

Hikers and backpackers take note: Here is what you should be prepared for this weekend in the High Country.

The High Country of Inyo and Mono Counties will have an on-going chance of thunderstorms through at least Monday. Be prepared for the following: cold weather, heavy rain or hail, erratic winds, thunder, lighting and in <this> case the strong possibility of nighttime thunderstorms. The last is very tricky, as things may “look” fine during the day, then become dangerous later at night.” Dennis
