Carla Denver, 23, of Bridgeport

Highway 395, a Bridgeport woman landed in jail.

Deputies said that at nearly one in the morning Saturday, officers saw a GMC Yukon traveling at a high rate of speed on Stock Drive in Bridgeport. The driver failed to stop. An hour-long pursuit followed with the GMC and officers reaching speeds of 90 mph. Officers said the chase mostly took place on Highways 395 and 182 but did go through the town of Bridgeport at times.

Officers said that the driver, Carla Denver, 23, swerved towards oncoming traffic forcing them off the road. They said that because of the “erratic and dangerous driving displayed by Ms. Denver”, officers cancelled the pursuit more than once. Officers said that a deputy stationed himself in the Walker area and near Bridgeport. They said Denver turned around and headed back to Bridgeport. They said she drove her vehicle at the deputies and their cars. Officers said the woman hit one of the patrol cars, backed her car up and tried to run over the deputies and then headed to Bridgeport.

CHP officers laid down a spike-strip which disabled one of her tires. She kept going but the CHP stopped her. Then she refused to get out of the car. To stop the whole mad event, a deputy shattered Denver’s passenger window. She still refused to get out. Officers used a TAZER and finally took her into custody.

Officers said Denver will face charges of attempted murder of a peace officer, assault with a deadly weapon, failure to yield to a peace officer and driving under the influence of alcohol.
