Press release
The 1st Eastern Sierra History Conference
October 28-30, 2016
Tallman Pavilion, Tri-County Fairgrounds, Bishop, CA –
The Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association (ESIA) announced it will be holding the first Eastern Sierra History Conference October 28-30 in Bishop at the Tri-County Fairgrounds.
The conference will feature presentations from local and other historians about people, culture, and traditions of our region.
Bob Gardner, Executive Director of ESIA, stated, “Visitors to our Eastern Sierra bookstores are curious about the history of this region and want to know how they can get more information on local culture and traditions.
“We decided to sponsor a conference featuring noted scholars, historians, local personalities, and authors to educate the community, and to remind everyone about the rich history of this area.”
Gardner noted the conference is also well-timed with Inyo County’s 150th Sesquicentennial. The presentations will cover the entire Eastern Sierra, but a special focus will be on Inyo and Mono Counties.
20 different speakers are expected to participate in the two-day event. The Eastern Sierra ski culture, the water saga, hot springs, petroglyph art, Horse Meadow Arborglyphs,  towns of the 1800’s, lady prospectors and Native Americans are just a few of the topics scheduled at this point.
Proposed field trips include Paiute Shoshone Cultural Center, Laws Railroad Museum, Eastern California Museum and a Tour of the Spark Plug Mine. With over 2,000 years of history to learn about, you won’t want to miss this exciting and informative event.
The conference will run all day Friday, October 28 and Saturday October 29, with a dinner Saturday evening featuring local authors and their historical books. Field trips will be held Sunday Oct. 30.
The cost of the conference will be $125 including the dinner. Single day charges will be $65 for Friday and $85 for Saturday. Reduced rates will be available for students. The field trips may have a small additional charge.
Registration for the conference is available through the ESIA website atesiaonline.org.  For more information contact ESIA at (760) 873-2411.
