For those who like horses, cowboys, packers and fancy riders, check out the 5th Annual Ultimate Cowboy Challenge at Double L Ranch in Bishop – Friday through Sunday.

Event organizers say the Challenge will showcase a range of riding styles and skill levels from local packers to extreme show riders to amateur youth and adult riders. The riders’ skills and knowledge of the animals are judged based on ability to negotiate obstacles in the quickest amount of time.

The three-day event will start with practice opportunities on Friday followed by preliminary competition on Saturday, a cowboy BBQ/silent auction Saturday night with finals on Sunday.  The first place winner receives $1,000 with other awards going to top youth riders 12 and under, youth rider 13-17, top amateur riders 18 to 50 years, top amateur rider 51 and over, top professional rider and top horse, mule and donkey.

The public is invited to watch what they are calling “extreme competition.”  Anyone interested in competing or in search of BBQ tickets, call Double L Ranch at 760-872-3515. Double L Ranch is located at 1181 Rudolph Road, Bishop.
