The Bishop Senior Center was packed Monday afternoon for Pete Watercott’s retirement luncheon. After 20 years cooking up lunch and other well appreciated meals at the Bishop Senior Center, the entertainer and community activist also known as Fiddlin’ Pete, cooked his final meal for the Senior Center.

Friends and co-workers past and present wished Watercott well. Watercott himself said that over the 20 years he has worked at the Senior Center he always looked forward to coming to work. Everyday was rewarding, he said. Which is good because, happy cooks make great food, Watercott explained. One of the many stories he told at his retirement luncheon came four years into working at the Senior Center, when the chef received a petition signed by 25 diners asking for liver and onions. Watercott explained that on the day he added liver and onions, it was the only time in his cooking career that he received a standing ovation.

While he will be missed as the Senior Center Chef, Watercott says that he still plans to be active in the community.
