On a cold and windy day, firefighters in the Bishop area were called out to a brush fire burning north of the Bishop Airport.

Just after 2:00 pm Wednesday afternoon, Bishop Volunteers, Forest Service, and Calfire crews responded to the fire that sent up a sizeable smoke column. The fire burned through grass and brush underneath cottonwood trees.

On scene, firefighters worked both sides of the creek. Bishop Fire Chief Ray Seguine reports that with the cool temperatures and moist conditions, the fire didnt spread through the grass as fast as it might during the summer. The fire was limited to about 2 acres in size according to early estimates.

The cause of this fire remains under investigation at last word.
