Firewood Available Near June Lake Starting in September

usfssign.jpgThe Inyo National Forest announces the re-opening of a personal-use fuelwood cutting area in the June Lake Loop beginning September 1st, 2013.

This area is located on the north side of Hwy 158 opposite from the Fern Lake Trailhead. A valid 2013 personal-use fuelwood permit is required to collect downed material only. Permittees will be required to park along the shoulder of Hwy 158 during collecting activities, and will not be permitted to drive off-road for firewood retrieval.

All other wood cutting regulations are in effect. The public is asked to keep a safe distance from crews working in the area, and to avoid trespass on nearby private property. Maps of the collection area available where permits are purchased.  This area will remain open for fuelwood collection until the Forest Service has determined sufficient firewood has been removed to reduce hazardous fuel conditions.

Fuelwood permits may be purchased at local Forest Service Ranger Stations and Visitor Centers.  Fuelwood permits are $15.00 per cord with a two cord minimum purchase. The Inyo National Forest will institute shut down days (for chainsaw use) based upon daily Project Activity Levels.  Permit holders can call (760) 873-2555 for information on shut down days.
