Aid to an Injured Climber on Crystal Crag

On Saturday, August 18, 2012, the Mono County Sheriff Search and Rescue (SAR) Team responded to a call for help for a 28 year old Crystal Crag climber from the Bay Area who had been injured by rockfall.  The SAR Team, Mammoth Lake Fire Department, and the Mono County Paramedics responded to Lake George and climbed up about 200 feet above the base of Crystal Crag to the victim who had sustained a femur fracture.  A local physician and two other climbers were climbing nearby and helped the victim and rescuers throughout the technical rescue lengthy procedure.  The victim was placed in a portable litter, and lowered 190 feet down the north face of Crystal Crag, then carried out to Lake George, to a waiting ambulance.  He was taken to Mammoth Hospital for treatment.

Aid to an Injured Backpacker near Garnet Lake

On Sunday, August 19, 2012, the Mono County Sheriff Search and Rescue (SAR) Team responded to a call for help of a 55 year old backpacker from Newhall, CA.  He was on a trip from Mammoth to Yosemite when he slipped and fell near Garnet Lake, severely injuring an ankle.  A Team rescuer was lowered on a cable hoist from CHP helicopter H40 to the victim, who was then hoisted to the helicopter and taken to Mammoth airport, where Mono County paramedics transported him to Mammoth Hospital for treatment. The Team rescuer accompanied his companion on the hike out to Agnew Meadows.
