Senior Computer and Internet Classes (4)

They’re back! The popular, free weekly computer and Internet classes are returning to the Bishop Senior Center on Mondays and at the Bishop Public Library on Wednesdays.

Dozens of local seniors and residents over the past year-and-a-half have joined in the five-week sessions funded by the Margaret Pillsbury Foundation through a generous grant awarded to the Desert Mountain Research, Conservation and Development Corporation and the Eastern Sierra Connect Regional Broadband Consortium.

Now more than ever, with smart HDTVs, smartphones, tablets and computers—all with Internet access—there is a need for a place to go that can help the user understand the differences.

Jack Perkins, who has attended the classes for over a year says, “I learn something new in every class.”

Beginner-level classes are from 3-4:30 p.m. and Intermediate-level classes are 5-6:30 p.m. The purpose is to help the residents of Bishop become more acquainted with computer and Internet skills needed in today’s online environment.

If you are uncomfortable with using technology, this class is for you. The classes are a hands-on, interactive learning experience with iPads and Windows 10 laptops provided during class. Many of the participants help each other and it is a class taught in a friendly setting. No previous experience is needed. Participants are encouraged to bring their own tablets or laptops. The training does not require previous knowledge or experience.

For more information on the dates for classes, please call the instructor Charles James at (760) 614-0546 or send an email to [email protected].
