Have an overdue library book nagging at the back of your mind, but worried about paying the late fees? Starting this week and running through May 11th, Inyo County libraries will accept any books, videos, or magazines back without charging any fines.books.jpg

When we spoke to Librarian Nancy Masters she explained that right now there are currently about 150 overdue books out there, but there may be other library books from long ago sitting on shelves or in attics and basements. Some books have even been found at local garage sales, she says.

Fines max out at $10 a book, but that can quickly add up if you have a lot of overdue books. Masters says that waiving the fines gives people an opportunity to bring those books in and return to the status of patrons in good standing.

Masters says that the purpose of late fees is not to charge fines but to get books back into circulation. With this fine free time through May 11th, she says dont hesitate to bring the overdue books to your local library.
