The Friends of the Eastern California Museum wish to invite our Inyo and Mono County friends and neighbors to our annual meeting, silent auction and potluck dinner to be held Saturday March 8th 5:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Independence.  The Friends are a non-profit organization that provides much needed financial and volunteer support for the Eastern California Museum.  Last year, through their membership, donation and fund raising efforts the Friends were able to provide over 10% of the Museum’s annual budget.  The Friends also sponsor local educational events and field trips for Eastern California residents and visitors throughout the year.

In addition to the dinner and auction, there will be a 35 minute program on the History and Development of Tourism in Death Valley.  The program features rare photographs, brochures and marketing ephemera, as well as little known Death Valley trivia and even some old home movies of visits to Death Valley from years ago.  In accordance with the theme of this year’s program, the silent auction features a number of great items including rooms, golf, meals and jeep rental packages at some Death Valley and other Eastern California resorts & hotels.

The evening begins with a reception at the Eastern California Museum 155 N. Grant St in Independence at 4:00 p.m., with the festivities moving to the American Legion Hall (the corner of Kearsarge and Hwy 395) for dinner and the program at 5:30 p.m.  Independence is well known as the potluck capital of the world and there is no charge for the dinner.  We hope everyone will join us.  For more information visit our website… http://fecm.org/ or call David at (760) 920-8061.
