In the Eastern Sierra, more and more families and individuals depend on local food pantries to help them make it through the year.  At this holiday time, Inyo-Mono Advocates for Community Action fooddrive(IMACA) and Salvation Army need your help.

Jane McDonald at IMACA said that the need for food is much higher and their food pantry shelves have slim supplies right now.  The agency has started a food drive, and you can donate non-perishables at barrels stationed at Manor Market, Joseph’s Market in Bishop and Lone Pine, Carroll’s Market in Big Pine, and the Shell and Chevron minimarts in Independence. Vons will also collect bags of food in its own program.

McDonald said that IMACA will accept financial donations from Mono County residents that will be earmarked specifically for the Mono food pantry. She said that there is a serious need for food in our communities.  In addition to the food drive programs, you can donate frozen meats and vegetables at the IMACA headquarters at 224 S. Main St.  Money donations should go to IMACA, PO Box 845, Bishop, CA, 93515. For more information, call 873-8557, ext. 26.

The Salvation Army also keeps up a food pantry.  They delivered 75 Thanksgiving baskets and have more to go.  Officials say that food and money donations are needed.  You can drop off basic food staples at the Salvation Army.  They also need money donations.  The red kettles will start to appear soon, and the Salvation Army needs bell ringers.  Call them at 872-2124 or drop by the office at the Town and Country Shopping Center in Bishop.
