Inyo County Supervisors:

First let me explain this is not a letter because I was not appointed to the Water Commission by Inyo County Supervisors. This letter is to ask the Supervisors if they remember what they said in their September 14, 2010 meeting about how members should be recruited to serve on the Water Commission?

Several Supervisors stated that it was hard to get people to apply for commissions? It was mentioned that the public generally does not read the legal notices in a paper, therefore maybe use radio stations and the papers to inform the public that a position on a commission is open and applications are being accepted.

This week I received a letter from Inyo County Supervisor Cervantes dated November 18, 2010 that thanked me for applying for a position on the Water Commission and my willingness to serve the residents of Inyo County. He also would like to encourage me to continue my interest in County Government and serving the residents of Inyo County.

Enclosed was a copy of a notice of NEW vacancy on the Inyo County Water Commission to complete a four-year term ending December 31, 2014. This was sent (Attention Legal Notices PLEASE PUBLISH IN THE November 18, 2010, issue of the Inyo Register).
I did not see the notice in the paper as I very seldom read the legal notices so I bought the November 18th, 20 & 21st, and the 23rd issues. Lo and behold in the 18th and only in the 18th did I find a legal notice on page 9 in the Inyo Register. It announced the Supervisors were accepting applications to fill one vacancy on the Inyo County Water Commission to complete a four-year term ending December 31, 1014. Request for appointment must be received before 5 P.M . November 30, 2010.

What happened to ideas you had two months ago to inform the public about commission positions in this latest vacancy?
