At close to 9:00 Friday morning, Bishop Police and Symons Ambulance responded to Giggle Springs on Main Street Bishop for a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle. The male victim, 62 year old William Downey suffered major injuries and was taken to Northern Inyo Hospital.

A Bishop Police Officer on scene explained that the victim was crossing Main Street in the crosswalk at the Giggle Springs gas station. An 84 year old man from Big Pine, driving a white sedan, hit Downey in the crosswalk. The vehicle stopped fifteen feet or so past the crosswalk. The windshield of the white sedan was crushed and pushed in by the victims body, which then landed in front of the vehicle.

The driver appeared to be unhurt, though definitely distraught over the accident. Police report that the victim suffered serious head and neck injuries and was later flown out to Reno for further treatment.
