Planning for the upcoming Sesquicentennial celebration is just beginning. Everyone who has some ideas on how to mark the anniversary, or is interested in helping plan events or programs, or has suggestions about the kind or type of speakers and special events that would enliven the celebration, and anybody that just want to help out,  is invited to an organizational meeting to share those thoughts and ideas.

The Inyo 150 Organizational meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 14, at 6 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Chambers, 224 North Edwards Street in Independence.

Currently, the County has only set a small number of tentative events to mark its 150th birthday. Thus, the Organizational Meeting will essentially be an hour-long brainstorming session that will  provide a chance for residents to offer ideas about how to commemorate and celebrate all aspects of the coming 150th Anniversary celebration.

“Everything is on the table at this point,” said Inyo County Chief Administrative Officer Kevin Carunchio. “We want to hear everyone’s ideas,” about ways the county, community groups, and local residents can celebrate the 150th anniversary, he said. Just as important, “we would like to have enthusiastic people from every area of the county – from Death Valley to Round Valley — volunteer to help with events and programs during the year,” Carunchio said.

The January Organizational Meeting is geared solely to individuals, Carunchio added, since a separate outreach effort will be geared to informing organizations, businesses, non-profits and other groups how they can participate in the Inyo County Sesquicentennial.
