SAR missions come at a high cost, especially during the coronavirus pandemic.

Summer brings out a lot of hikers and rock climbers. And a lot of people are now coming up to the Eastern Sierra to enjoy the great outdoors. More people result in more lost hikers, accidental falls and often serious injuries, or worse, a body recovery,  that requires a Search and Rescue response. In these times of the Coronavirus pandemic, every search and rescue effort places a great strain on the system as rescuers often must go into quarantine before they can participate in another rescue.

Wilderness rescues can be very dangerous due to severe weather conditions other hazards such as very difficult terrain. Helicopters are not always readily available. Rescuers are also putting their own lives and well-being at risk. ICSAR has these Tips to offer: Stay Together; Turn Around; Ownership; Prepare and Train= STOP.
