inyo_courthouse.jpgFormer Inyo District Attorney Art Maillet retired and left part of his elected term unfilled. Now, the Inyo Supervisors plan to appoint a new DA to fill out the term which ends January 5, 2015. Monday is the deadline for attorneys to file letters of interest and resumes.

In an open letter, the Supervisors set out requirements for DA candidates. They said the applicant must be or have the ability to become an Inyo County resident, must be admitted to the California Bar, must be a registered Inyo County voter at the time of appointment, although the Board can waive the voting requirement.

According to the County letter, the salary for the position of DA is $10,101 per month plus, as the letter says, an additional 10% for “premium pay.” The position is also entitled to benefits provided to other County elected officials such as retirement, health, vision and dental insurance. The letter also says “The Board of Supervisors may change the salary for the position in accordance with state law.”

Letters of interest and resumes must be in the County Personnel Department by 5pm Monday, August 26. At this point in the process, interested parties can hand deliver their paperwork or fax it to 760-878-0465.

The Supervisors have scheduled public interviews at their meeting on Tuesday, September 3rd. All individuals who submit letters of interest and meet minimum qualifications will be interviewed. The County letter says the Board may appoint a DA at the September 3rd meeting or later. The County letter also points to the fact that an appointed DA would have to go to election to remain in the position after January 5, 2015.
