In June, David Douglas Speidel, the 21 year old mammoth man accused of throwing four and a half moth old puppy off a second floor balcony, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor animal cruelty. He has now been sentenced by the court.

In April, Mammoth Police Officers reported that the suspect threw the puppy, named Rowdy, off of the second floor balcony into a frozen snow bank, badly injuring the dog. According to Police, the suspect’s girlfriend said that Speidel became angry when he stepped, barefooted, into dog feces inside her apartment.

Deputy District Attorney Kyle Graham reports that probation did not recommend additional jail time, but the DAs office pushed for 60-90 days in jail. Graham says that he did show the judge a photo of the distance the dog was thrown and that perhaps the judge took that into account. Speidel was sentenced to 45days in jail.
