21 year old Joshua Loy of Big Pine was sentenced to 6 years in state prison when he appeared in Inyo Superior Court on Friday.

In earlier months, Bishop Police had arrested Loy near Bishop Schools. Officers reported that a young, female student said that a young man had grabbed her and fondled her as she walked to school.loy.jpg

The perpetrator had run away but was chased by police. Officers said that they had to taser Loy to place him under arrest. Loy remained jailed after his arrest, and a Sacramento-area attorney, Patricia Tilley, defended Loy. She had alleged improper handling of her client by police. She said that the way officers presented Loy to the victim for identification was slanted to unfairly single him out as the suspect.

Tilley also argued for her client's trial to be held in another county. That motion failed, and after a brief trial, the jury found Loy guilty of one count of child molestation and one count of attempted molestation. The jury had deadlocked on another count involving a third girl under the age of 14.
