The Judicial Council of California makes rules and far-reaching policies for the state court system. And, now, Inyo County Superior Court Judge Dean Stout has been appointed to the California Judicial Council.

A press release from the Court says The Judicial Council has 21 voting members. Stout will become one of them. The California Chief Justice personally phoned Judge Stout to ask him to serve on the Judicial Council. Judge Stout is quoted as saying, “I am deeply honored to be appointed by the Chief Justice to serve in this important capacity, and I am humbled by her trust and confidence.”

Stout also said that this is a very challenging time for the Courts. He said the statewide fiscal crisis continues to affect the ability of the Courts to “provide access to our courts of justice.” Judge Stout said the under-funded justice system continues to face the possibility of having to close additional court facilities, courtrooms and self-help centers and to furlough more workers. The Judge said that court infrastructure has been “severely compromised by significant funding cuts.” He says he looks forward to working with the challenges.

Judge Stout was admitted to the California State Bar in 1977. He worked in private practice in Bishop for ten years. During that time he also served as a Public Defender. Stout worked for the next ten years as Assistant District Attorney for Inyo County. He has served as Inyo Superior Court Judge since 1997.

Judge Stout will begin his three-year appointment as a voting member of the Judicial Council September 15th of this year. Court Executive Officer Tammy Grimm pointed to the considerable achievement of Judge Stout’s appointment and the opportunity to impact the statewide judicial system in these difficult times.

Shouldn’t the headline read: “Miracle in Sacramento! – Best person picked for the job!”
How can something this rational happen in Looney-ville?
Congratulations to Judge Stout, and many thanks for your continued commitment to public service, sir.

I very much agree that Judge Stout should be praised for the many things he has brought to our local justice dept. I sadly do not see justice ever being served fairly until our local DA is removed.

Why do you hate the DA so much Big?
Don’t you know what hate does to a person?
They end up sounding like a right-wing radio talk show host.

With you on this one, Russ.

No one better could have been chosen. We are incredibly lucky to have someone of Judge Stout’s integrity and experience here in our county…and now at the state level. He is also just an all-around nice guy to boot!

I join you in congratulating him.
