edward_keller17-year-old Edward Keller, held to answer for the November homicide of James Williams of Bishop, appeared this week for an arraignment hearing on the charge of murder. It appears now that his legal representation will change as he moves through the courts.

In his preliminary hearing earlier this month, Keller sat silently as the District Attorney played interview tapes in which Keller described a drunken scene turned violent. At first Keller claimed someone else had hit James Williams several times with a weight bar, but in the second interview Keller indicated that he killed Williams because he had beat up Keller’s cousin.

Court spokesmen reported this week that Keller’s attorney had bowed out of the case and that the court wanted to appoint Tom Hardy as a public defender for Keller. Hardy said that Judge Lamb had asked him about accepting the appointment. Hardy said that assuming he has no conflicts, he could accept the appointment.
