Karen Kong is running for office on Bishop City Council 1

Karen Kong announces that she is running for Bishop City Council

(Press Release – July 15, 2020)

Working with the motto ‘Service Before Self’, Kong has spent her adult life working and helping people strive to be their best selves. While raising her three children, Kong gravitated to jobs that directly or indirectly helped families and the community.

Over the course of 16 years, Kong worked as a TV writer/ reporter/anchor, a grant writer and prevention educator at Wild Iris Family Services, and at Inyo County Health and Human Services in Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug (ATOD) Prevention. Eventually, Kong landed her dream job with Superintendent Terry McAteer at the Inyo County Office of Education. She currently works directly with middle and high school students educating them on a variety of topics from their personal health, ATOD, Suicide Prevention, and other social emotional dynamics of growing up.

Kong has dreamt of serving on the Bishop City Council for many years. It is the needs of the families and the community the draws Kong to the Council. “For years I have worked to impact Inyo County residents to better combat the challenges of life with knowledge and self-awareness. Now I hope to impact the City of Bishop, as a whole, by fighting for the best services and by providing strong leadership into the future.”

Kong sees the future of the City of Bishop as ever changing. With the population getting younger and more young families moving in, the needs of the residents and the services the City provides must adapt and change as well. “The challenges of the economy amidst the COVID pandemic, the increase in empty storefronts on Main and elsewhere in Bishop, and the balancing act between the needs of the citizens and the desires of the traveling public are just some of the issues I hope to tackle if elected.

Kong has a broad base of support already prepared to vote for her and endorsements from people from all walks of life and groups of community members. Some of the local people that have endorsed Kong include Frank Crom, former Bishop City Mayor; Jose Franco, Real Estate Agent; Sue Butler, Retired Public Health Nurse; Kate Morley, Grant Writer; Joe Pecsi, former Bishop City Mayor; Allan Pietrasanta; April and Scott Eagan;

Kong encourages Bishop residents to email her if they have questions for her about specific topics. She also looks forward to talking to Bishop residents, with a mask and appropriate social distancing, when she hits the streets to talk to the voters in the upcoming months.
