Reporter Tony Dublino provided us with a Bridgeport report this week:

The Tale of Trouble between Mono County’s Assessor and the Board of Supervisors took a slight shift this week, but only slight.

Tuesday would have been the first monthly report Assessor Jim Lovett agreed to give to the Mono Supervisors, still mistrustful of Lovett, after a summer of angry dialogue with him over drinking and work hours.

Instead of Lovett, his assistant, Bob Musil, appeared at the Board meeting. Lovett had taken off for San Luis Obispo and a state assessors conference. Board members had reacted to news of Lovett’s travels with mistrust, vowing to find out if he really had to attend the conference.

On the business side of the Assessors office, Assistant Assessor Musil updated the Supervisors on the issue of assessment of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area following the sale to Starwood. Musil said that the County is working with attorney David Baumwohl on information needed to complete the re-assessment.

Musli also verified that Mono County will deal with some Proposition 8 tax reduction cases. When property values drop after purchase, in some cases, property taxes can be adjusted.

Back to Mr. Lovett. Dorothy Burdette, one of those leading the recall effort against Assessor Lovett, reported that she has 250 signatures on petitions. 1630 valid voter signatures by December to trigger a recall election.
