station_fireThe enormous fires in southern California and elsewhere have drawn inmate fire crews from the Conservation Camp in Inyo-Mono. Camp Chief Mike Smith said that all of his 85 or more inmates were assigned to fires in other parts of the state.

Two crews of 34 men went to the Big Meadow Fire near Yosemite. Three crews of 51 inmates went to the Station Fire in Southern California. The camp’s bulldozer went there, too.

As the fires down south worsen, other inmates from all over were sent to the Owens Valley Camp to stand by in case fire emergencies develop here in the Eastern Sierra.
