Press release
Mammoth Lakes, CA – The Mammoth Lakes Police Department is continuing its KnowYour Limit drunk and impaired driving prevention program. On Saturday, November 26, 2016, from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM, the Mammoth Lakes Police Department, in partnership with Mono County Behavioral Health and Mammoth Taxi, will be conducting a Know YourLimit event at Rafter’s.
Know Your Limit is designed to help potentially impaired drivers make informed decisions as to whether or not they are capable of operating a motor vehicle safely. Officers will be present in front of Rafter’s (202 Old Mammoth Road) with PAS devices and educational material.
Citizens will be offered the opportunity to submit to a voluntary PAS test, also known as a breath test. The results will be provided to the citizen, along with information on driving under the influence and a token for a free taxi ride provided by Mammoth Taxi.
The tokens have been paid for by Mono County Behavioral Health and can be used the night of this event or any other night for a ride home provided that the ride is within the town limits. If the taxi ride is outside town limits (i.e., Main Lodge, the Bluffs, or Crowley Lake), the token is only good for its face value of $5.
This educational program offers citizens the opportunity to learn more about alcohol consumption and its effect on their breath alcohol content.
MLPD hopes that by providing citizens with a better understanding of their own limits on alcohol consumption that they will choose not to drive if they are above the legal limit.
McCarthy….does your statement there mean there should be no testing for pot,and DUI shouldn’t apply to those driving stoned ?…I myself, when I smoked weed I like to think I knew my limits when and when not to drive a vehicle under the influence of marijuana, and believe you me,there were times… Read more »
MAMMOTH POLICE , I HOPE YOU ARE TESTING FOR POT ALSO . IDIOTS.
Please tell me GT, what test is there for pot? hahaha
@McCarthy, There is a blood test that will determine the level of THC in the blood. There just isn’t an established legal standard for a maximum limit when operating a vehicle like there is with alcohol. The test is administered at the discretion of law enforcement. I personally know someone… Read more »
wilderbeast…..what you say is so true….I lost a family member to a drunk driver in 1971….and countless friends and locals I’ve known to drunk drivers, both here in Inyo County and other areas I’ve lived…whether it be checkpoints or education, whatever it takes to get these drunk drivers off the roads before… Read more »
Funny….I think both are useful tools. This one to educate on just how few drinks it takes to be under the influence and the other to remove the adam henrys that really could care less about the safety or effect on others when a DUI accident happens. Thirty two years… Read more »
They band breathalyzers in Australia bars. I guess people were trying to get the high scrores.
Great idea. I’d rather see more of these and fewer DUI checkpoints.
