Coming up at the end
of the month, a group of Eastern Sierra Residents will cut off their
hair to raise money and hair for kids in need. Its all part of a
program called Locks of Love that uses donated hair to make wigs for
children who have lost their hair due to illness or accident.

Mammoth resident Quart Keyes donated her hair four years ago and has been growing it out ever since so she can donate again.

Keyes says that it's not just young cancer patients who they are trying
to help. There are other diseases that cause hair loss, like allopecia.
Locks of Love also helps out burn victims.

The minimum hair length for a donation of hair is 10 inches, but if you
dont have long hair you can still show up to the fundraiser and get a
regular haircut, since the stylists will accept cash donations in
exchange for haircuts.

They also accept hair that has been dyed, but not bleached. All ages
can donate hair (gray hair is fine, too), and Keyes says that its
amazing how many kids want to help out fellow children.

The Locks of Love Fundraiser will be held on March 30th at the Forest
Service Auditorium. For more information on how to donate to this hair
drive, or to help out in other ways like setting up, call Quart Keyes
at 530-863-0554 or e-mail her at [email protected]
