Mammoth's big recycled water project will save 360 acre feet of good water – enough for 1700 residential units per year. The project, many years in the works, will provide recycled water to the two town golf courses.mcwd_project.jpg

Right now, Mammoth Community Water District crews have started to work to lay the delivery system from the wastewater plant to Sierra Star and snow Creek Golf Courses. The work started today (Monday) and will continue through mid-June. The project will take place on Minaret Road and may cause slight traffic delays at times.

The work will proceed south on Minaret. The first customer to receive recycled water is Sierra Star Golf Course, likely in the summer of 2010, with Snowcreek Golf Course expected as a customer in the near future. Public parks and school playing fields may also use recycled water in the future.

Mammoth relies on water supplies from the Lakes Basin, Mammoth Creek and groundwater pumps. Water officials have calculated water needs for the town based on the general plan population predictions. The debate has continued over actual future needs.
