The Mentor Initiative was conceptualized by the State’s environmental laboratory accreditation program, and executed by mentor laboratories. It is anticipated an upcoming amendment for laboratory accreditation will require implementation of the TNI Standard, so MCWD’s laboratory will likely be required to comply with these standards in the next several years.

After an on-site visit on July 30, State auditors determined that the MCWD laboratory is successfully implementing the proposed laboratory standard. This determination is a compliment to the Mentor Initiative and MCWD’s laboratory staff.

“The auditors were in our laboratory for the entire day,” says Blair Hafner, MCWD Laboratory Director. “After answering many questions and reviewing revisions to our Quality Assurance Manual, we feel that we are well prepared for the coming changes. The MCWD lab takes pride in providing high quality lab analyses for our customers and to other water purveyors in the Eastern Sierra. The new draft regulations make significant changes to our documentation process and we are prepared to comply.”

The CA Water Boards tweeted on July 30, 2019 “Auditors from our lab accreditation program are working in magnificent Mammoth Lakes today! This community’s lab is an early adopter of the TNI Standard. Inspiring work from the rural mountain lab to protect the people of its beautiful community!”

The MCWD is proud to have a high performing laboratory that is prepared to meet future requirements. MCWD is committed to continuing to provide our customers and surrounding comminutes with a drinking water and wastewater testing laboratory that is reliable and consistent with federal and state regulations.
