Mammoth School District Voters turned out to the polls yesterday to take a second crack at Measure S, the $59 dollar parcel tax that sends money to the schools. By the slimmest margins, the tax measure passed this time.

As a tax measure, two thirds of registered voters have to approve. This can put one third of the people in the driver's seat.

In the spring election, Measure S was defeated by a handful of votes. With such a narrow margin of defeat, the school board put the four year parcel tax back on the ballot for a second try.

Perhaps it was the weather, or a few more people convinced that the tax was a good idea, but 1027 people voted yes, to 474 no votes. That works out to a 68.4% voting to approve, meaning that the measure passed by less than 2%.
