The following press release was issued by the “Let Mammoth Decide” group:

The Chamber of Commerce Measure Z Forum planned for September 29, 2015, was cancelled by the No on Z group due to format requests by the YES on Z group.

Specifically, Yes on Z supporters felt it was inappropriate for a Town Councilman to be the opposing panel member and therefore the No On Z group decided not to participate.

This Forum was not intended to be a soapbox for the Town Council’s view on Measure Z. A video of the Mammoth Lakes Board of Realtors’ Measure Z forum from September 17 can stil be viewed on the local public access Channel 12.

Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce press release

Mammoth Lakes, Calif. (September 22, 2015) — With questions still lingering regarding Measure Z, the Town of Mammoth Lakes’ upcoming ballot measure that will determine who will vote on single-family home rentals—the Town Council or the general public, the Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce (MLCC) has decided to host a forum to give residents another opportunity to ask questions and become educated on this issue.

The forum will be held on Tuesday, September 29 from 5-7 p.m. at the Forest Service Auditorium (next to the Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center). The public will have the opportunity to ask questions of the Yes on Z group, No on Z group, and Town staff. This is an unbiased forum meant to provide one more opportunity for interested citizens to educate themselves on both sides of the issue before casting their votes during the special election on October 6.

“Come get educated,” said MLCC Director Craig Schmidt. “And if you are already educated on the subject, bring a friend or two that may wish to learn more.”

Questions should be sent via email to [email protected] prior to the event. Questions may also be submitted at the start of the forum on blank cards that will be provided. Personal attacks and/or profanity will not be tolerated in any portion of the forum. The moderator will simply be asked to read alternating questions for response from the appropriate group.

Prior to Q & A, each group will be allowed 10 minutes for opening statement and at the end, 10 minutes for a closing statement, the order to be determined by the flip of a coin. A timekeeper will be used to assist the respondents to stay within the 3-minute time frame allowed for each response.
