Will a zone code amendment turn into a popular vote for medical marijuana cooperatives in Mammoth Lakes?

The issue heads to the polls June 8th.

Last week, the Mammoth Town Council officially carried out the final vote for an ordinance that includes a zone code amendment on marijuana cooperatives.

The Council also said yes to resolutions that put the measure on the ballot with analyses and ballot arguments.

The zoning ordinance says that Mammoth can have only two medical marijuana cooperatives and they must go up in either the commercial general or industrial areas of the town. The cooperative also have to locate at least 500 feet apart.

That’s what will go to the voters. Meanwhile, citizens and officials have worked on another ordinance that will regulate the actual operation of the cooperatives.

This document will speak to issues like numbers of plants allowed, the appearance of the cooperatives, security issues and employee guidelines.
