Mammoth Hospital Partners with ASICS Mammoth Track Club

By Ehren Goetz, Public Relations Coordinator

Mammoth Hospital is proud to announce a new partnership as the official medical provider for the ASICS Mammoth Track Club.

The ASICS Mammoth Track Club has approximately 150 members who train year round at high altitude. The group of dedicated runners has produced 12 Olympians, 64 National Champions, and 24 American Records. Under the leadership of their coach, Andrew Kastor, the club trains hard to stay at peak performance.   Andrew spent 15 years as a competitive runner and now dedicates his time to coaching members of the track club, including his wife, Deena.

“Mammoth Hospital has always been there for us,” says Kastor. “We’re excited about this new partnership to promote more preventative performance checks to ensure our athletes are at their optimal fitness, which will alleviate potential for injury and overexertion,” he says. “Other perks of the partnership allow our athletes to train at Mammoth Hospital, including access to the specialized underwater treadmill Deena had trained on for three weeks prior to winning her first marathon.”

Tests performed for the team include measuring an athlete’s lactate threshold, as well as maximal aerobic capacity (VO2 max). The tests are able to measure an athlete’s ability to tolerate lactic acid in blood and muscles, in turn helping to determine a unique training regimen to match the endurance levels of each athlete.

Of the 150 members, eight are considered ASICS Mammoth Track Club elite runners. This year those elite eight are pursuing dreams of making the 2016 Olympic Team.

“As the official medical provider for the ASICS Mammoth Track Club and their incredible athletes, we’re very proud that they have placed their trust in us to provide their medical care,” says Mammoth Hospital CEO, Gary Myers. “It is an honor and a privilege to support their dreams and goals of being world class competitors and champions.”
