Lupe Almaguer has entered not guilty pleas to four counts of child molestation.

The Mono County District Attorney’s Office has filed two more charges of child molestation against Mammoth Lakes Day Care Provider, Lupe Almaguer.

The 56-year-old Mammoth resident appeared in court yesterday in Bridgeport for a pre-trial status conference. Deputy District Attorney Todd Graham filed an amended felony complaint which adds two more counts of child molestation. Graham had earlier filed two counts of the same charge. Graham said that in this case there are four victims and four charges of child molestation.

Almaguer entered pleas of not guilty to the two new charges. Judge Stan Eller presided over this hearing, even though he had earlier removed himself from the case. Graham explained that a judge who is disqualified in a case can hear non-contested matters as Judge Eller did on Tuesday.

Almaguer remains in jail in Bridgeport under a half million dollars bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 14th. The defendant did file a written waiver for his attorney, Dave Hammond, to appear for him without his presence in the future.

No other details have been revealed in this sensitive case which involves the Mammoth community and some 20 years of Almaguer’s caring for local children. The case does remain under investigation.
