jcpenney_wreckBishop Police continue to investigate an accident that happened last Friday at 6:30pm when a woman said she tried to hit the brake on her car and her foot slipped onto the accelerator. Officers confirmed that she hit a pedestrian.

Police Lt. Chris Carter said the pedestrian was walking across South Warren St. The vehicle was headed east toward Penney’s from a west parking lot. Carter said the woman was attempting to park in a handicapped parking place and tried to hit the brake. The woman said her foot slipped onto the accelerator, propelling her into the street.

She hit the pedestrian and then hit the side of the J.C. Penney’s building. Lt. Carter said the pedestrian was thrown from the hood of the car through the door of Penney’s. No arrests were made, and no alcohol was involved. The Lieutenant called it “an accident.”

The pedestrian was taken to Northern Inyo Hospital but had given police no statement.

On another note, Bishop Police have geared up for Mule Days and will work the crowds as they have in the past. Lt. Carter said the Mule Days’ crowd is a great one, people who don’t cause trouble. Officers will focus on traffic control and other needs during the parade on Saturday and they will maintain a presence at the fairgrounds. Carter said officers from the CHP, Inyo County Sheriff, and Mammoth Police will offer additional help.
