In two weeks, the size of Bishop may easily triple with the annual worship of Mules. This year, local law enforcement have put their heads together for combined coverage.

Bishop Police Lt. Chris Carter confirmed that Bishop Police Chief Sheehan and CHP Captain Joe Flores collaborated on new police coverage of the holiday. The Fairgrounds is state property and, by law, under the CHP. In the past, Bishop Police have always covered the center of Mule Days. The Captain and the Chief reviewed the situation. As a result, the CHP will provide more manpower, a command trailer and other resources.

Officers will use a radio system that allows the CHP and Police to communicate directly. We understand Mono County law enforcement will be involved in some aspects too.

So, a more cooperative law enforcement effort for Memorial Day, better known as Mule Days in Bishop.
