Press release
On Easter morning Pastor Tony Unger and his wife Nancy will begin their new ministry at First Southern Baptist Church For The Sierras, at 241 Sierra St., Bishop.
Pastor Tony has previously served at Grace Baptist Church in Valencia, CA for approximately 12 years, Leona Valley Church in Leona Valley, CA for approximately 7 years and most recently as Sr. Pastor at Trinity Baptist Church in Palmdale, Ca.
In addition to ministry, he is also a professional musician, playing in a group that performs nation wide. He will lead worship at church as well as offering free training for those that want to learn to sing or play guitar.
The Ungers have been vacationing in the Eastern Sierras for some 30 years. They love this area and are very excited to start their ministry and become an active, vital part of the community.
Pastor Tony said that he really enjoys working with youth and he and his wife look forward to initiating some mentoring programs for youth. Their other interests include flying, fishing, horseback riding and traveling, although Tony admits that all of those will take a back seat to this new full time position.
We invite the whole community to come celebrate with us on Sunday mornings at 11:00 am.
We would like to extend a special invitation to join us March 27th, Easter morning, which will include an Easter egg hunt for kids starting at 10:00 am. You can also join us at a home bible study which will start soon on Wednesday evenings.
Please contact Pastor Tony at [email protected] if you should have any questions or would just like to chat. You can also reach him at the church office, 760-873-6022 or on his cell at 661-510-6351
Pastor Tony Unger and Mrs. Unger, welcome to the vocal Godlessness of the Liberal, Eastern Grammarian(s) Society, located on the east side of a beautiful and mighty mountain range that was created by Him. May God bless you both in your calling here. Only God knows who’s range it is… Read more »
Sierra Nevada. Some choose to shorten it to “The Sierra”. Others use the nickname “The Sierras” The nickname has been around for who knows how long. References to “The Sierras” can easily be found as far back as the early 1900’s. But I imagine this will continue to keep the… Read more »
It is also the Sierra Nevada because Sierra is already a plural word, when translated directly from Spanish. Or so I was taught way back in 1973 when I first moved to the Sierra Nevada.
Bishop Beans……If I’m going on a vacation to the Sierra Nevada Mountains,I’ll be sure to take your advise on what I say…..but if I’m going to the Sierras’….that’s what I’ll be doing……what difference does it really make anyway ?
Low-Inyo,
You won’t take anyone’s “advise” because that is a verb meaning to tell someone what you think he/she should do. You’ll take someone’s “advice” because that is the noun.
By the way, it’s Sierra (with the plural s) because it is the name of one mountain range, I believe.
It’s Sierra (without an “s”), not Sierras (with an “s”). Please, people of the Eastern Sierra, stop using this incorrectly.
I know what you mean…I can’t
STAND it when someone says ” I (could) care less” . Its…”I COULDN’T care less” !
