As we had reported several days ago, Inyo Sheriff Bill Lutze appointed Lieutenant Jim Jones to the spot of Undersheriff. Sheriff Lutze is quoted as saying, “With Undersheriff Jones’ lengthy career and many assignments, along with his leadership and his ability to work with Sheriff’s personnel, other departments, allied agencies and the public, he will be able to confront the many challenges we face in these tough economic times. I’m very pleased to have him as my Undersheriff.”

Undersheriff Jones’ career spans 35 years, starting with his job as deputy for Imperial County, followed by a stint in the City of San Diego Police Department.

Jones came to work for Inyo County Sheriff’s Department in 1982, was promoted to narcotics investigator, assigned to the narcotics task force, crime investigations in southern Inyo, INET Commander, and Internal Affairs Investigator. Jones was promoted to lieutenant in charge of Southern Patrol Operations, Emergency Services and Homeland Security in 2007.
