The Bishop Broncos are still looking for their first offensive touchdown and first win of the season.

Visiting Ontario Christian scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter and the Knights won their season opener with a 20-10 victory Friday night over Bishop at John Schwab Field.

Ontario Christian junior quarterback Andrew Lachelt and running back Elijah Winton scored TDs and led the Knights’ offense in the second half, rallying for the victory after trailing 10-0.

Bishop’s Chino Santana intercepted a Lachelt pass and returned it 72 yards for a touchdown and the Broncos took a 7-0 lead halfway through the first quarter. Santana added a 40-yard field goal which hit the crossbar and tumbled over for a 10-0 lead late in the first half.

Santana, who made two field goals last week, also had another interception for a long return late in the second quarter before Lachelt forced him out of bounds. Dominic Quintana also had an interception and played a solid game for Bishop.

The Broncos lost running back Tyler Stevens to a concussion in the first half, the latest in a string of Bronco injuries.

Ontario Christian (1-0) had many drives into Bishop territory but could not convert the offensive dominance into points until early in the fourth quarter.

The Knights, 8-4 last season and ranked No. 8 in this week’s East Valley Division poll, took advantage of a blocked punt and other Bishop miscues and scored three unanswered touchdowns in the final period.

Ontario Christian plays at Calvary Murrieta (No. 6 in Northeast Division) next Friday, continuing a tough pre-league schedule that also includes St. Margaret’s, Big Bear and Ontario.

Bishop falls to 0-2, including last week’s 32-6 loss to Truckee. The Broncos travel for two weeks in a row, playing at Dayton, Nev. and Rim of the World (Lake Arrowhead) before hosting the Mammoth Huskies.
