“I am excited to be here and get to know my staff, the community, and the forest,” said DeSenze. “This position comes with great responsibility and I am humbled to be given the opportunity to lead the talented group of people and partners who work to ensure it remains such a special place.”

Before coming to the Inyo National Forest, Philip served as the Public Affairs Officer on the Angeles National Forest. He also served as the Deputy District Ranger on the Kern River Ranger District of the Sequoia National Forest, with temporary assignments as Acting District Ranger on the Kern River and the San Jacinto Ranger District of the San Bernardino National Forest.

Philip joined the agency in 2012 as Regional Planner for the Northeastern Area.  He has completed temporary assignments as a Legislative Affairs Specialist, Regional Media Officer, and Colorado Capitol City Coordinator for the U.S. Forest Service in the Rocky Mountain Region. He also completed a year-long special assignment as the Deputy Associate Director for Climate Preparedness at the White House Council on Environmental Quality.

Prior to beginning his federal service, Philip served as senior legislative aide to the majority floor leader in the Ohio House of Representatives and as the Governor’s legislative liaison for the Ohio Lottery Commission. Philip earned a B.A. in Political Science and dual Master’s between the School of Environmental and Natural Resources and the John Glenn College of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University.

“Philip brings great breadth of experience to the Inyo National Forest.  His achievements working with partners, legislative affairs, and as a District Ranger make him well suited for this position. Philip really enjoys working with people, which will serve our community well. There are many opportunities for collaboration as we work on sustainable recreation and improving forest health,” said Tammy Randall-Parker, Forest Supervisor on the Inyo National Forest.

In his free time, Philip enjoys all things outdoors, global travel, live music and dancing, cooking and eating great food, and watching sports; particularly Ohio State Buckeyes football.
