Phyllis Ann Coufal, age 82, resident of Bishop for 24 years, born in Valparaiso Nebraska on February 24, 1932 passed away peacefully on July 15, 2014. She was surrounded by her number one priority, her family.

Phyllis was born and raised on a farm in southeastern Nebraska. She met her husband-to-be, Alois Coufal at a church dance and was married shortly thereafter on April 24, 1950. They moved to Southern California in January 1956, living in Anaheim until 1990 when they moved to Bishop.

Besides her family and church, she loved her flower garden and polkas. She was an accomplished homemaker, cook, and baker, and knew how to entertain a crowd.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Alois of Bishop; 7 children: daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Steve Miller of Corona CA; son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Nancy Coufal of Bishop; daughter and son-in-law, Charlene Coufal and Bruce Burton; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Theresa Coufal of La Mirada CA; son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Terri Coufal of La Mirada CA; son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Kim Coufal of Norco CA; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ken DeLu of Lodi; 10 grandchildren: Thomas and Megan Miller of Corona, Emily and her husband Derrick Johnson of Mammoth Lakes, Elizabeth Coufal of Bishop, and Chas Coufal of Bishop, Celise Coufal of Idyllwild, Jessica Coufal of Garden Grove, Amanda and Ashley Delu of Lodi, and Austin Coufal of Norco; and 4 great grandchildren, Maxwell Osendorf; Kyla and Wesley Johnson; and Devin Yawman; and 2 brothers, George Potter of McMinnville Oregon, and Gene Potter of Placentia CA.

A Rosary Service will be held at 7pm Thursday July 17 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and a funeral Mass will be held at 10a.m. on Friday July 18, also at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
