The Inyo Planning Director is out and a new Public Works Director will soon be in.

First, the planning director. Word had circulated that the Inyo Supervisors decided to terminate the contract of Planning Director Pat Cecil. When asked about this development, Inyo County Administrator Kevin Carunchio said only that the Board “discontinued the contract with Pat Cecil, but he will remain on the county payroll until May.

Carunchio said Cecil would perform work if assigned by the CAO or acting planning director. Carunchio said Inyo Deputy Public Works Director, Mike Conklin is managing daily matters in the planning department.

Officials have declined to say what caused the Board to part ways with Mr. Cecil.

Until a new planning director is hired, Interim Public Works Director Doug Wilson will spend an extra day in Inyo to serve as Interim Planning Director through December. After that, Inyo County may contract for another interim director with recruitment for a new planning director closing January 23rd. CAO Carunchio noted that in today’s economic climate, a lot of planners are out of work and looking for new positions.

Meanwhile, Inyo County also works on hiring a new Public Works Director. The Inyo Supervisors interviewed three candidates a few weeks ago. CAO Carunchio said that now, officials are doing background checks. After this, they will meet with the finalist and make a job offer. Carunchio said he expects a new director on board in early January.
