mltc12_18_13Whether to rely on a consultant or not is the puzzler members of the Mammoth Town Council face in their move to hire a permanent Town Manager. Wednesday night they will consider hiring a consultant to help them, but they may not.

At past meetings, council members had different views of how to proceed with hiring a Town Manager. Councilmen Matthew Lehman and Michael Raimondo winced at the thought of spending $26,000 for a consultant to tell them what to do. Councilman John Eastman said he wanted to wait on the whole issue. Council woman Jo Bacon definitely wants a consultant to help the Council. Mayor Rick Wood, who was initially unsure, came around to the decision that he also wants a consultant.

The agenda item for Wednesday gives the Council a choice – hire one of the recruitment firms they earlier interviewed, hire a different firm or handle the task themselves. The agenda bill, written by Personnel and Risk Analyst Sarah Vigilante, lays out all the Council’s options but pushes for a decision. She says, “It is critical to the long-term stability, efficiency, and health of this organization that the Town Council moves forward with a process for and/ or appointment of a permanent Town Manager at this Time.”

Current Interim Town Manager Dan Holler has also made it clear that he wants the permanent Manager job. The Council has several options – hire an expert to help recruit, use current personnel to help recruit, appoint Interim Manager Dan Holler, appoint someone else, or do nothing.

In other matters before the Council, they will meet the Town’s new Building Official, Steve Stokes, and the new Code Compliance Officer Peter Roman. The Council will hear recommendations for Measure R fall funding and consider an Airport Capital Improvement Plan.
