Press release
The Rotary Club of Bishop’s President, DeEtte Johnston, inducted Grace A. McCarley Holder at the Tuesday February 7th meeting held at Astora’s Restaurant in Bishop.
Holder’s sponsor, Dr. Leo Pisculli, brought her to several cub meetings to introduce her to other members and some of the organization’s projects. Grace said she felt she could contribute her time helping with the club’s many community service projects along with Rotary International’s humanitarian programs and agreed to sign up. Her father was a very active and avid Rotary member for years and her sister, being a member of Rotary certainly helped influence Grace to join Rotary and to serve her local community.
Grace was born in Modesto, CA and raised in Irvine. She has a Ph.D. in Geology and moved to Bishop in 1990 to work as a Geologist/ Senior Scientist at the Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District (GBUAPCD).
Outside of work, Holder enjoys running (especially trial running) gardening, cooking, hiking CrossFit, and relaxing in the beautiful outdoors. She has one son, Robert, who is currently a graduate student at UC Santa Barbara working on his Ph.D. in Geology.
When asked about anything interesting she has done, Grace said she was an exchange student to Japan through the Rotary Club in Santa Ana while she was in high school and she is a referee for local sports, AYSO, Sierra Roller Hockey and Bishop Swim Team.
President DeEtte said Grace will be a wonderful addition to the club and looks forward to working with her on the club’s many service projects. The Rotary Club of Bishop meets every Tuesday atnoon at Astorga’s Mexican Restaurant. Visitors are welcome and lunch is $12.00.
