Jack Colby of Mammoth Lakes appeared in Mono Superior Court on Monday for an arraignment hearing.

Mono District Attorney Tim Kendall said that Colby is charged with one felony count of possession of a controlled substance for sale and a IMG 0645prior 1993 strike conviction for assault with serious bodily injury. DA Kendall explained that if a defendant has a prior felony and is convicted of a new felony, the court can double the sentence given for the new felony offense. In the case of the charge against Colby, if found guilty he could receive 2, 3, or 4 years any of which would be doubled by the Court.

Last Thursday, the Mono County Narcotics Task Force revealed that they had worked with Mono County Sheriff’s Officers and Mammoth Police on a case that involved sales of cocaine in Mammoth Lakes. MONET agents said they served a search warrant and arrested 70-year-old Jack Colby on suspicion of sales of cocaine.

Agents seized more than $19,000 in cash which they allege is from narcotic sales. They also said they recovered scales, packaging materials, over one and a half pounds of cocaine, one gram of methamphetamine and a small amount of marijuana.

Colby’s preliminary hearing is now scheduled for September 19th. DA Kendall said the court set Colby’s bail at $30,000. At last report, Colby remained in custody at the Mono County Jail in Bridgeport.
