News at Mammoth Schools. The School Board has announced the appointment of Mr. Gabe Solorio as the new high school principal. Solorio has worked as Mammoth Middle School Principal for the past four years. mammoth_schl_bd_3-10-10

In a press release, the school board said that Mr. Solorio’s performance as middle school principal and his prior experience as a high school administrator qualified him for high school leadership. The board also said that Solorio has worked with retiring principal Mike Agnitch on programs in the past and now they are at work on the transition. Solorio will transition to the high school position in June.

Meanwhile, the school board and superintendent continue to work on the search for a new school superintendent. The search firm hired to help will hold a series of public meetings on March 22nd to get public input. They will ask community members to discuss the characteristics and qualities they want in Mammoth Unified’s next superintendent. An open community forum is scheduled for March 22nd at 5:30pm in the Mammoth High School Library.

In school news in Bishop, seven candidates have filed declarations of candidacy to run for five seats on the newly formed Bishop Unified School District.

These people are candidates for the five seats: Trina Orrill, Eric Richman, Carl Lind, Jesse Jason, Jim Tatum, John Ellis and Kathy Zack. Because it is a new board, the top three vote-getters will win 4 year terms and the next two, two year terms.
